THE CONJUNCTIVE PARTICLES

Examples of using the conjunctive particles:

The Pole Star keeps its place, and all the stars bow to it.
The Master said, “When I walk along with two others (lit three men walking. But it is implied that the speaker is one of them), they may serve me as my teachers. I will select their good qualities and follow them, their bad qualities and avoid them (lit. change them; correct them in myself, avoid them).
The Master said, “To give one's self earnestly (\*) to duties due to men (民之茶). to respect spiritual beings and to keep aloof from them may be called wisdom.
With a bow in hand and some arrows fastened at the waist.
Riches and honor are what men desire.
Poverty and meanness are what men dislike.
